The Haven is a licensed temporary residential emergency shelter home for abused, abandoned, and neglected children — newborns
to age nine. The home provides a stable, safe, nurturing environment for each if the children who call The Haven "home."

The Haven wanted to have a decorative mural on the back side of their building where the kids play on the playground. STAR w/Teen found a group of
teenagers who were interested in art and painting and got them involved with the project.
|
Over the next several weeks, the teenagers met with STAR artists and learned the ins and outs of mural painting in a hands-on, classroom lab.
They also got to learn about the business of art, and what kinds of careers might be available for them in the field after graduation.
|
The teenagers also got to be involved in the design of the mural, then took up brushes and buckets in order to bring the idea to fruition. |
The work was broken up to take advantage of each of the young artist's particular strengths, keeping everyone involved. |
 |
Everyone teamed up and had a lot of fun. Lots of new friendships were formed! |
These young people had the opportunity to discover the artist within them. |
Two weekends later, the mural was done. |
A fanciful new park and playground, completely from paint! |
In the end, these teens learned a lot about themselves, their art,
and how to work together as a team. |
